چکیده

from Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) is an important concern1. Direct destruction of RBCs following Pf infection cannot account for the degree of anaemia observed during malaria infection instead it has been suggested that the destruction of uninfected RBCs is a major cause of haemoglobin loss2. Recent evidence suggests that RBC complement regulatory proteins are involved in malaria associated anaemia3,4. The complement cascade plays a key role in the modulation of inflammatory responses and its activation has been reported to be crucial to Anaemia & expression levels of CD35, CD55 & CD59 on red blood cells in Plasmodium falciparum malaria patients from India

Enhanced T cell activation in Plasmodium falciparum malaria-infected human immunodeficiency virus-1 patients from Mozambique.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection has an important impact on malaria. Plasmodium falciparum and HIV-1 co-infected patients (Pf/HIV) present with a high degree of anaemia, enhanced parasitaemia and decreased CD4⁺ T cell counts, which increase the risk of developing severe malaria. In addition, infection with either Pf or HIV-1 alone causes extensive immune activation. Our hypothesis...

Profile of mixed species (Plasmodium vivax and falciparum) malaria in adults.

OBJECTIVE Studies on malaria due to co-existent P. falciparum and P. vivax infections are negligible in India. Therefore, this study was undertaken to find out the clinical profile, prognostic factors, and outcome of mixed species malaria and to compare it with P. falciparum malaria. METHODS This prospective, comparative study has been conducted in a tertiary health care institution with high...

Multidrug-Resistant Plasmodium vivax Associated with Severe and Fatal Malaria: A Prospective Study in Papua, Indonesia

BACKGROUND Multidrug-resistant Plasmodium vivax (Pv) is widespread in eastern Indonesia, and emerging elsewhere in Asia-Pacific and South America, but is generally regarded as a benign disease. The aim of the study was to review the spectrum of disease associated with malaria due to Pv and P. falciparum (Pf) in patients presenting to a hospital in Timika, southern Papua, Indonesia. METHODS AN...

Pf155/RESA protein influences the dynamic microcirculatory behavior of ring-stage Plasmodium falciparum infected red blood cells

Proteins exported by Plasmodium falciparum to the red blood cell (RBC) membrane modify the structural properties of the parasitized RBC (Pf-RBC). Although quasi-static single cell assays show reduced ring-stage Pf-RBCs deformability, the parameters influencing their microcirculatory behavior remain unexplored. Here, we study the dynamic properties of ring-stage Pf-RBCs and the role of the paras...
